Yes, Feminists can laugh and make you laugh too!

Some people say feminists don’t have a sense of humor. They say we are angry with everything – with men, with families, with tradition, with the economy, with the laws! Know what? Sometimes we are. Who wouldn’t be if you had to fight for basic rights, equal pay, the right to your own body, the right to financial security, and yes, the right to dignity! But, when they say we feminists can’t laugh they got it wrong. We can. Here’s presenting a few bloggers, artists, comedians and actors who can laugh, and can make others laugh as well!

imageJezebel isn’t one blogger, but an entire blog with multiple writers. I love single every article on this website, and it is hard to pick one outstanding blogger. But here’s one that got me last week: Marriages are falling apart because women be drinking! Yes folks, you heard it right. It’s the drunken women that are breaking the hearts of their good husband waiting at home. Writer Madeline Davis rips apart this misogynist analysis of failing marriages with a great sense of humor! A must read, but while you are on the site do read more than just this one article.

Then there are femist comedians. I don’t mean female comedians, but feminist comedians, like George Carlin, who is a man and very pro-woman. (and yes, by that I do mean that there are women with a misogynist sense of humour, but I’ll come to that in another blogpost). Who does not love George Carlin! Just watch him take anti-choicers down in this video!

Then we have female, feminist comedians like Tina Fey or Amy Poehler, or actors like Ashley Judd who are a pleasure to watch as they offer women’s perspectives on modern sexism, modern day misogyny and the post-feminist wave. They talk the modern language and are easy to identify with! Sometimes I’ve laughed until I teared!

I’ll leave you with a link to a Funny or Die video where Ashley and fellow feminist comedians give American Politician, and almost-presidential candidate for the 2012 American elections, Rick Santorum, a taste of his own medicine. If mandatory counselling for abortion and shaming ever made you mad, this will make you laugh!

So, take a seat, click on this link and prepare to give your weekend a hilarious start!
