International Campaign For Women’s Rights to Safe Abortions: Mapping Our Supporters

ASAP has endorsed the International Campaign for Women’s Rights to Safe Abortions. As part of the campaign, pro-choice organization worldwide will hold local, national and regional events to amplify our demands for safe abortion during the week of September 28, The International Day for the Decriminalization of Abortion. We have a countdown going, and guess what, September 18 is only 25 days away.

To make the countdown exciting, ASAP decided to try something new and fun this week! Several wonderful organizations and people have endorsed the ongoing International Campaign for Women’s Rights To Safe Abortions across the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East. We are happy to present to you an interactive map that shows where these organizations are.

Unfortunately, technical difficulties won’t allow me to embed it on our blog! But here is what the map looks like today. For the entire interactive map, use this link: https://campaignendorsements.crowdmap.com/

In the week of September 28, ASAP is planning a Tweetathon – a marathon tweeting session, for which you should join us on Twitter @asapasia , and use the hashtag #AbortionRts to tell us what you think about access to safe abortions across the Globe. We also hope to post testimonials from some of the most experienced advocates, rights activists and doctors during that week, and highlight the work of our partner organizations.

But the campaign does not end that week: In several countries in spite of our best efforts, abortion will continue to remain criminal beyond the 28th of Sept. 2012. In other countries, restrictions will remain in place, and women will continue to struggle for access to safe abortions. While the week will certainly help us draw attention to the issue, the campaign will be an ongoing effort to destigmatize and decriminalize abortion, and liberalize abortion laws across the globe for as long as it takes.

To join this effort, read more about the campaign on our website, and endorse it using this survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/CHH62F5
