What Our Youth Champions Did For The 16 Day Campaign!
Some of our youth champions have been working really hard these last 16 days to promote gender equality, and to campaign against gender violence. Here’s a list of the activities they were involved in:
1. Esha Sarswat, India: Esha works with Sahayog, a Lucknow-based women’s rights organization. She writes, “We and our partner organizations celebrate 16 day campaign with the name “Ab to Jaago” (Wake Up Now). We organize activities like road shows, puppet shows, candle march, signature campaigns etc. etc.”
2. Fezel Nizam, Cyprus: Fezel is a member of Cyprus’s first feminist collective, The Feminist Atelier. She writes, “We are organising a solidarity concert for women’s shelter(according to the law, the government has to open a shelter and also provide security to women and children. But it never fulfilled this obligation) We are also screening a movie against violence on Friday 30th.”
3. Preet Manjusha, India: Preet works with Samyak, an organization that works for social justice, development and equality. On Nov. 30 She wrote to us – “Today I facilitated a workshop with adolescent girls about sexual and reproductive health. Also our team is engaged in various activities in slums in Pune city for the occasion of 16 days campaign. I will write an article on the need to separate ‘PCPNDT” (Pre-conception, Pre-natal (sex) determination test) from the right to safe and medical abortion for women’ in Marathi. It might be publish in a newspaper.”
4. Shreejana Bhajracharya, Nepal: Shreejana works with Ipas Nepal and volunteers with a few local youth groups that promote reproductive rights. She says, “We are working actively with district AIDS coordination committee of Bhaktapur (Nepal) for Dec 1 st to celebrate World AIDS Day. Our youth information forum is preparing red ribbon with a design appealing to the youth.” She later blogged about it for us. Read it here.
In the meantime, Loveria Sekkarini (Indonesia) and Dakshitha Wickremaratne (Sri Lanka) attended the Global Youth Forum in Bali, Indonesia. More on that later this week.
